I'm not clear how it is that I ended up here

Name: Kurapika of the Kuruta Tribe
Series: Hunter X Hunter

Crux: After the events in Yorknew City, Kurapika appoints a replacement for himself and leaves the Nostrad family for Soeldei.
Tangent: His fever had broken, but the nightmares continued. They had already left Yorknew City but both Pakunoda and Ubogin remained with him, haunting his dreams. In his waking hours he sometimes thought he could even see their ghosts. He knew he was likely going insane. The guilt was eating away at him, his inability to feel nothing over what he had done. But how utterly ridiculous! Had he not spent the last five years dreaming of and preparing for the day he would exact his revenge on those who had killed his family? And yet here he was, troubled by the deaths of two members of that organization, two people who had deserved death, had it coming for them. He had ultimately put an end to the Spider by cutting off its head, but why did he still feel so unsettled?

Perhaps he needed a change of pace. Staying with the Nostrad family was restricting, choking, even though he was practically its head with the Boss as useless as he was right now. He needed to get away. He would find a fitting replacement for himself, someone who was skilled and intelligent but trustworthy, and leave the Mafia family to his protégé’s and Senritsu’s capable hands. And then he would leave.

During his travels he had heard of a place named Soeldei, a place of new beginnings. There were still the rest of the Scarlet Eyes to recover, but Kurapika was tired. Even his four closest friends would not be able to help him now. Before going, he would leave them a message telling them there where he was headed and then seek out a new life in Soeldei. Maybe then the nightmares would cease.

Allegiance: Virtuoso
Reason: Were he a careless person, Kurapika would admit to joining the Virtuoso simply because of the unrestrained access to the library of Soeldei that its members have. But Kurapika is not careless. Even though he is a powerful fighter, Kurapika’s vast knowledge and sharp mind is still his strongest suit, and with Virtuoso is where he would likely learn the most, and find people of a similar mental capacity.

Appearance: Kurapika stands at 171 cm (5ft 6in) and weighs 59kg (130lbs). Mistaken for a girl even by his own archenemy, he has fair skin and short blond hair that reaches just below his chin, with bangs that are long enough to cover his eyebrows but not his large, light blue eyes. As a member of the Kuruta tribe, his eyes are special in that when he is overcome by intense emotions, they turn into the Scarlet or Ruby Eyes, famous for their red color that is said to be one of the most seven beautiful colors in the world. They are much coveted by collectors and so to hide his identity and to protect himself, Kurapika wears black contact lenses to hide them. The rest of his facial features and the shape of his face itself, as framed by his blonde hair, are quite feminine.

His wardrobe consists mostly of blue tunics and ponchos with orange patterns and high collars that are more than likely traditional clothes of his tribe. He arrives in Soeldei wearing the one he had worn during his stay in Yorknew: a tunic composed of a skirt with a bow-like pattern in front, and a top with a fancy looking pattern on the chest. He takes these off when engaged in a serious battle, and underneath wears a pale blue long sleeved shirt with blue cuffs and secured around the waist with a pale lavender sash, loose pants of the same color and bottom cuffs as the shirt, and plain blue Chinese-style shoes. The shirt’s collar is also pale lavender, and shows Kurapika’s black undershirt.

He also owns an outfit composed of a long-sleeved black shirt, a dark-colored hat, long black wig and dark shades, and another of a female receptionist, complete with pink wig and lipstick. He had used these to disguise himself in Yorknew and has no qualms about wearing them again, if he has to.

Kurapika wears a single earring on his left ear, with a blue diamond-shaped stone hanging via short length of chain from the metal clasp. On his right hand he wears an intricate chain bracelet attached to rings on all five of his fingers, his primary weapon. In Soeldei he will often be seen carrying a book, as he actually finds the time to read.

He also owns what they call a Hunter License, which looks like a typical credit card, only thicker and with a computer chip inside it. This card is fairly durable and is the proof that Kurapika is a Hunter. He does not want to be recognized as one in Soeldei however, and will very rarely take it out, not even to see if he could still use its benefits in Soeldei.

Personality: Kurapika is a calm-headed character who rarely loses it even when placed in the most dire of situations. Partly because he knows and is confident in his skills to get through most anything, but mostly because he has both the wits and the knowledge to make quick and sound decisions. He may sometimes appear like a pompous brat or a know-it-all when he shares his vast knowledge, but he rarely deliberately makes himself come off as being haughty. He can be straightforward and blunt, but not necessarily rude. If anything, Kurapika is a well-mannered, proper young man who will punch his roommate if he so much as dares to walk half-naked inside the room. Well-read and crafty, he can blend in well with any crowd, but is not exactly the type of person who goes out of his way to socialize.

His friend Gon once said that to truly know a person, know what it is that annoys them the most. For Kurapika, it is insulting his clan. Jokingly meant or not and no matter the situation, saying anything bad about the Kuruta Tribe in front of him can set Kurapika off. Something not quite bad enough to have his eyes turning red, though it’s possible if the insult is particularly terrible. What can make his eyes turn red without fail are the Genei Ryodan, or the Spiders as some people call them for the spider tattoo the members wear on their backs. Kurapika’s anger is so great that his eyes turn red at the mere sight of a normal spider. His vision literally goes red and he becomes marginally more powerful, dangerous and scary. Unless the encounter has been planned for, meeting Spider members turns Kurapika careless and somewhat reckless, everything else fading into red in his lust for revenge, including the safety of his friends and comrades.

Otherwise however, his friends’ safety comes as being the most important thing. More important than his own safety and, though he would not want to admit it to himself, more important than his mission. He would go so far as to isolate himself from them and refuse their help to keep them safe. Kurapika would not want innocent bystanders to get hurt because of him him either. Though he likes to delude himself that there is nothing he can’t take or do in the name of his revenge, and indeed he can go as far as doing something shady like joining the Mafia, or totally unorthodox like dressing up as a girl, killing, most especially baseless killing, is something he still hasn’t come into full terms with. Even the death of one of his own enemies haunts him.

Finally, Kurapika can be quite stubborn. Once he has made a decision, he will follow through with it, no matter how dangerous it may be for him. He can be an insolent little brat, even to authorities like his own Nen Master. But his heart is in the right place, and is genuinely a kind person.
